Pfeffernüsse Cookies

Ingredients

  • 4 1/2 cups ultragrain flour
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg (ground)
  • 3/4 teaspoons pepper (black or white, ground)
  • 2 teaspoons anise seed (ground or whole, depending on preference)
  • 1/4 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cloves (ground)
  • 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon (ground)
  • 1/4 teaspoons salt
  • 2 cups dark brown sugar (packed)
  • 5 eggs (large)

Directions

Sift dry ingredients into a large bowl, then add sugar and eggs. Mix until combined, then let sit until dough moistens. Roll into balls about the size of a walnut and place onto a lined (silpat works great) or greased baking sheet. Bake at 350 for 15-20 minutes. Store in an airtight container.
