Cherry Holiday Hideaways
Ingredients
- 2/3 cups organic shortening (butter flavor if available)
- 3/4 cups granulated sugar
- 1 egg (large)
- 1 tablespoon milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 3/4 cups ultragrain flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 48 maraschino cherries (well drained)
- 1 cup almond bark
Optional
- chopped pecans
Directions
Cream shortening, sugar, egg, milk, and extract. Combine dry ingredients, then gradually add to mixture and stir until well combined. Press dough in a very thin layer around cherries. Bake at 350 for 10 minutes or until slightly golden. Allow to cool for 5 minutes. Dip into melted almond bark, then spinkle with pecans. Yields about 4 dozen cookies. | |
